This is the personal site of Ryan Overbey. I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Committee on the Study of Religion at Harvard University, writing a dissertation on the Dà fǎjù tuóluóní jīng 大法炬陀羅尼經, a sixth-century Chinese Buddhist text.

In between writing my dissertation, exploring the academic job market, and other more pressing matters, I occasionally write in this space. The current goal is to explore, methodically and chronologically, the great old journals of French Orientalism. Right now I am looking at the early years of Journal asiatique.
